SKINCARE & BODYCARE WINTER ADVICE – NEW YEAR DETOX
Should I change my skincare routine in Winter?
Maintaining healthy skin that looks and feels incredible all year around, often requires a carefully planned skincare regime. Many people will decide for themselves which skincare and body care products they’re going to use, however, at our clinic we will always recommend getting advice from a professional. At RR Skin, Body and Laser Clinic in Dartford, Kent, we conduct personal consultations to ensure your skincare purchases are right for your skin, your concerns and your skin’s individual needs. In many cases, people will continue the same routine all year long and don’t always take into account how their skin needs have changed (or may change) with the seasons. This is why our clinic recommends regular skincare reviews.
Should I change my skincare routine with the seasons?
Yes absolutely, Why? Because as the seasons change in temperature (harsh wind, rain, snow, sun) it affects our skin along with other external stress factors like pollution, illness, UVA/UVB rays, diet, stress, sleep patterns, exercise and our lifestyle.
Do I need a winter skincare review?
December, January and February are considered to be our winter months, when it’s generally colder outside. During this time, central heating is more in use and you’ll find that the skin is exposed to fluctuating temperatures as you go in and out of the cold. Whether you’re outside or inside during winter, the atmosphere is generally drier as there’s less humidity in the air. This can mean your skin is also drier, and more prone to the effects of dry skin and irritation.
A winter skincare review will provide an in-depth analysis of your skin, here at RR Skin, Body & Laser Clinic this review will be carried out by Natalie a highly trained skincare professional with over 14 years of expertise. When assessing your skin, Natalie will consider both the external and internal factors affecting your skin, identifying your particular skin type as well as investigating how your skin behaves on a daily/monthly basis as there maybe factors to consider going on beneath the surface of the skin. From here, Natalie can suggest which home-care skin products will be most beneficial for your skin in terms of improving skin health, enhancing skin texture, tone and clarity. She will consider the short and the long term, working to both improve the condition of your complexion and to maintain its health and quality for the future.
How winter affects skin?
As winter sets in, we tend to find that common concerns include: rashes, facial redness, itching, irritation and increased sensitivity. Dry skin is often the main contributor to all of these concerns, which is why hydration will feature highly in her winter skincare advice. Our recommendations for maintaining hydrated skin includes drinking plenty of water everyday (the same as you would during summer), as well as changing up your skincare routine and swapping the skincare products you use.
How do I adjust my skin routine for winter?
Your skin may benefit from switching your foam cleanser for a cream cleanser that is moisture-rich, as well as ensuring other products are focused on increasing hydration and supplementing the skin. We love the iS clinical Cream Cleanser or Environ Hydra Intense Cleansing Lotion for winter months as they are a little more rich and moisturising to the skin.
Feeding the skin internally during the winter months with nourishing vitamins and oils can make great improvements to help keep the skin hydrated from head to toe, especially as winter skin challenges of dryness, dullness, crows feet eye wrinkles, rough hands and leg dandruff. Some of our favourite winter skincare products include:
- Advanced Nutrition programme – skin omegas
- Advanced Nutrition programme – skin moisture lock
- Advanced Nutrition programme – skin moisture IQ

How do I detox my skin?
January is also a great time to consider detoxing and rejuvenating your complexion, post Christmas. Indulging on rich foods and alcohol can inflame the skin and increase the amount of surface bacteria, leading to facial redness and breakouts of spots. Tweaking your skincare routine and pampering your complexion with in-clinic treatments such as: resurfacing treatments such as;
Fire & Ice Facial
iS Clinical purifying deep cleansing facial
IPL Clearer Skin
Chemical peels
These facials can help to remove congestion, detox the skin and replenish the superficial layers of the skin and prepare it for the months ahead. Other skincare advice for the winter may include omitting the use of active concentrated skincare on the neck area in particular (as this can increase the risk of irritation), and regular facial sessions like our Signature Facial – performed every 4 – 6 weeks for effective skin health and maintenance. RR Signature Facials can include CACI muscle lifting, Radio Frequency skin tightening, LED Light therapy in RED for anti-ageing or BLUE for acne, microdermabrasion, FILLMED skin perfusion and CRYOLED eye treatment great way to hydrate and smooth the fine lines on the eyes plus professional skincare brands like Environ, iS Clinical and pH Formula. Our Signature Facial can include so many different elements brought together expertly into one facial that is truly personalised to your skin condition, needs and concerns.
