Leg Vein Treatment

Laser Treatment

Laser treatment has emerged as a highly effective and versatile solution for various vascular conditions. This non-invasive and targeted approach utilizes the power of focused laser beams to address a range of vascular issues, providing patients with safe and efficient alternatives to traditional treatments.

Vascular conditions that can be treated with include leg veins, thread veins, spider Veins, the laser can easily break down the small dilated blood vessels near the skin’s surface. The laser’s heat causes these vessels to collapse and be reabsorbed by the body.  Here I treat the following conditions with Laser;

  • Leg veins
  • Cherry angiomas
  • Thread veins
  • Reticular veins (eye vessels)
  • Port wine stains
  • Wart/verruce
  • Nail fungus (onychomycosis)

The technology system used for these types of dermatologist conditions is the Ellipse Multiflex+, part of the Nordlys family owned by Candela one of the biggest and highest-quality laser manufacturers across the world, all machines are clinically tested and produced to extremely high standards offering a wide range of aesthetic and dermatological treatments.   Ellipse light and laser machines are known around the world for outstanding results and impeccable quality – Ellipse is indeed clinically proven.

Key Benefits

1. Comfort

The Nd: YAG has a SoftCool cooling system that gives greater comfort during treatment, a focused stream of cool air efficiently removes excessive heat pre-, peri, and post-treatment cooling, making it the least painful vascular laser on the market.

2. Fewer Treatments

The combination of lower fluence and selective waveband technology (SWT) means the IPL is more targeted like a laser as it targets more specific chromophores in the skin,  resulting in fewer treatments compared to other brands of Laser & IPL on the market today.

3. Proven Results

With 20 years of clinical experience, the Ellipse system is one of the most proven multi-application systems, leading physicians and doctors have been actively involved in the development of the Ellipse MultiFlex+, and clinical studies have been thoroughly documented the Ellipse’s safety and effectiveness – before and after images are available to showcase the results that can be achieved.

Cherry Angioma Removal

A cherry angioma is a common, benign skin growth that appears as a small, smooth, and often red or purple bump on the skin. These growths are made up of tiny blood vessels called capillaries and are typically found on the torso, but they can also appear on other parts of the body. Cherry angiomas are usually harmless and don’t require treatment unless they become irritated or for cosmetic reasons.

The exact cause of cherry angiomas is not well understood, but they tend to become more common with age. While they are generally harmless, any new or changing skin growth should be evaluated by a healthcare professional before going ahead with laser treatment for removal.

Leg Vein Treatment

As we age, valves in our leg veins become less efficient, so less blood is pumped back from the legs. This means blood vessels in our legs become larger, darker, and more visible. In severe cases, varicose leg veins may form and may require surgical treatment (vein stripping). Other vessels can be treated by injection (sclerotherapy). Smaller vessels (leg telangiectasias) are often treated by laser, such as the Nd: YAG 1064 laser.

How does the laser treatment work?

Leg veins treatment uses a precisely calculated pulse of laser energy, exactly directed to the vessel being treated. This causes the blood inside the vessel to heat up; causing the wall of the vessel to collapse. The vessel is reabsorbed naturally by your white blood cells. The skin surrounding the vessel is not affected by the treatment.

Can I be treated?

This depends on the size of your leg vessels, and also on your medical history.  A consultation is required before treatment can commence to assess the leg veins and advise if your vessels are too large for treatment or if you have one of the few pre-existing medical conditions that may make you unsuitable for this type of treatment.

Does the treatment hurt?

Our laser leg veins treatment uses the latest in cooling techniques – SoftCool™ – to minimise discomfort and protect the surrounding skin. Most people find that treatment of smaller vessels is practically pain-free. Even treatment of larger vessels is only mildly uncomfortable. The results are worth it.

Do I need to take special precautions?

Avoid sun exposure in the four weeks up to treatment; and avoid smoking in the four hours before the treatment starts (smoking causes the vessels to constrict, so there is less of the target available to treat). After treatment, you should avoid sun exposure for 30 days, even if there is no sign of inflammation in the treated area. Use sun protection (minimum SPF 30) if sun exposure cannot be avoided.

What can I expect after treatment?

Smaller vessels can disappear immediately after treatment, larger ones fade away more gradually over the next few weeks. Normally patients experience a little redness and/or swelling (lasting up to 2 days) in the treated area. Rarely, blood may collect in the treated vessel. In this case, your doctor will most likely request that you call back two days after your treatment.

How many treatments will I need?

This depends on the number of vessels to be treated. A single treatment is typical for most individual vessels, though some larger ones may need a second treatment.

Thread Veins

You no longer have to worry about facial thread veins.  These thin red veins (called telangiectasias) around your nose or on your cheeks are small blood vessels near the surface of the skin, often formed as a result of sun exposure, though sometimes occur in more general redness of the skin.

Vascular Lesions

Vascular lesions are the result of numerous or large vessels that form directly underneath the skin. These lesions occur in many sizes, and shapes and can be found all over the body.  They occur in a variety of forms including:

  • Port wine stains
  • Broken capillaries/telangiectasis / Spider veins
  • Cherry angiomas
  • Poikilderma of Civatte (sun ageing ) – discoloration of the skin to a reddish-brown colour, it is common to have small broken vessels/capillaries and thinning of the skin. It normally occurs on your cheeks, neck, and chest.

These can be easily and effectively treated with  Nd Yag Laser and IPL depending on the area, size, and condition. The light is used to absorb the hemoglobin in the blood, and the light is converted to heat, which destroys the protein in the wall of the vessel, the vessel then starts to disappear into the blood and is flushed out of the body by the lymphatic system.  A single treatment typically lasts 15-20 minutes.  The number of treatments depends on the area and number of vessels to be treated, it can take 1-3 treatments, and there are good results seen after just 1 treatment.

How does the leg vein treatment work?

Short, safe bursts of intense pulsed light (called SWT technology) are directed at the skin. The system filters the light to ensure the wavelengths used are absorbed by haemoglobin in the blood in your problem vessels. The light is converted to heat, which destroys the protein in the wall of the thread vein or vessel, causing it to gradually disappear after treatment. To ensure the best light transmission, a thin layer of gel is applied to your skin before treatment.

Which veins can be treated?

The most common treatments are for superficial veins in the face, but other vascular lesions on the face or body can be successfully treated. Treatments are most efficient in patients with light skin who are not suntanned at the time of the treatment. If your skin is less tanned, the contrast between the blood vessels and the background colour of the skin is greater, making treatment easier. However, we have pre-programmed settings for different skin types that deliver the correct energy output for your complexion.

How long does the treatment take?

Several vessels can be targeted in one flash of light. The treatment time depends on the area to be covered and the number of distinct vessels to be treated. A single session typically lasts 10-20 minutes.

Do I need to take special precautions before and after leg vein treatment?

The light used is completely safe, visible light. It is, however, important to avoid tanning (sun, solarium, or self-tanning products) before and during the treatment period. Otherwise, your tanned skin will absorb more light, which makes treatment less effective and less comfortable. It is also a good idea to avoid smoking in the 4 hours prior to treatment. Generally, no special care is necessary after treatment, but people with sensitive skin may benefit from applying a cold compress to the face immediately after treatment or from using an ointment prescribed by the doctor. After treatment, you should avoid sun exposure for 30 days, even if there is no sign of inflammation in the treated area. Use sun protection (minimum SPF 30) if sun exposure cannot be avoided.

How many treatments do I need?

The number of treatments depends on the location and number of your thread veins or vessels to be treated. Typically, the number of treatments ranges between 1 -4, at monthly intervals.

Does the leg vein treatment hurt?

No, many clients describe the treatment as practically pain-free.

How much does it cost?

Skin conditions that can be removed by Nd Yag Laser

Vascular lesion removal single spot/vein – £70
Poikilderma of Civatte (neck & chest) – £150

Nail Fungal Treatment

Onychomycosis (nail fungus) can affect fingers or toenails. It becomes more common with age, and certain other groups have a higher risk of developing the condition – people with diabetes, athlete’s foot, or circulation problems; people who sweat a lot, or even use communal showers at the gym or swimming pool, and those who have damaged their nails.

You may be reading this because you have found that antifungal nail paints don’t work for you, or because you have read about the possible side effects of oral antifungal drugs. Treatment with Nd: YAG 1064 offers a reliable and effective treatment, without the risk of uncomfortable side effects.

Can everyone have leg vein treatment?

Nd: YAG 1064 onychomycosis treatment is able to treat all colours of skin. Before treatment, you may consult your GP to take a nail cutting to ensure that fungus is the real cause of your nail problem.

How does treatment work?

A series of flashes of infrared light is aimed across the whole nail, including the nail folds (the skin immediately surrounding the sides and base of the nail). This heats up and destroys the fungus that is present. To ensure complete coverage, the whole series of pulses is repeated four times, and the individual flashes overlap each other.

How long does a treatment take?

Because the fungus can spread from one nail to another, normally all ten nails are treated, even if nail fungus is visible on only one or two fingers or toes. However, treatment of the whole ten nails normally takes only ten minutes.

How many treatments do I need?

Typically, 4-5 treatments are necessary. The first three treatments are spaced one week apart, with a follow-up approximately one month later. Following the treatment, an area of new clear nail growth will be seen. Since the nail grows slowly, this clear area may take 3-4 weeks to become apparent.

Do I need to take special precautions before and after treatment?

Like any other treatment of nail fungus, this is a treatment, not a cure. It deals with the problem that exists and does not give immunity against infection at some future time. It is only necessary to remove nail polish before treatment. You will be given a pre and post-treatment aftercare sheet that it is recommended that you follow to get the best results from the treatment

Does it hurt?

No –  The treatment gives a feeling of gentle warmth while the laser is flashing.

How much does it cost?

£85 per treatment for both feet or hands, it is important to treat all 10 so that the infection doesn’t continue to spread and cross-contaminate. The course of 6 treatments is £480.

Wart/Verrucae Treatment

The penetration depth of the Nd: YAG wavelength makes it ideal for treating resistant warts and verrucae.  Often more than 1-3 treatments are required, depending on the size and depth of the wart.

The treatment works by destroying the blood supply to the affected cells so they separate and fall off.  The Nd: YAG avoids the risk of scarring or colour change to the skin compared to other treatments.

Wart/Verrucae Removal £50 per treatment
