Acne
Acne can affect people from across all ages particularly an increase in peri-menopausal acne and breakouts. Acne occurs when a hormone called androgen stimulates the sebaceous glands to produce an oily substance called sebum. An overproduction of sebum can block the pores, trapping the oil, and skin bacteria (P.Acne) that feed on and break down the sebum also become trapped. The mixture of the hair protein sebum and fatty acids produced by the bacteria irritates the walls of the hair follicle causing inflammation.
IPL treatment can be very effective at reducing the blood supply to the sebaceous gland, slowing down the production of sebum. The best results are even achieved on inflammatory acne – red, aching, raised pimples.
Do I need to take special precautions before and after the IPL Skin Rejuvenation treatment?
The light used is completely safe, visible light, so no special precautions are necessary. It is, however, important to avoid sun, sun-beds and fake tan 30 days before and after treatment. It is recommended to combine the treatment with a good skincare routine. This can be advised at your consultation. Before treatment can commence a patch test is carried out. This is done 48 hours beforehand to check the skin is suitable without any reaction.
What can I expect from IPL Skin Rejuvenation?
You may notice some general redness on the face following the treatment. If you have sun-damaged skin, some of the pigmented spots may turn darker and eventually disappear. Because the bacteria are difficult to eradicate completely, it is advised to continue with a good skincare routine and perhaps combine it with LED light therapy. If you have a future acne outbreak, the treatment can be repeated. Results vary from person to person, though you should expect a faster clearance rate after the treatment.
Rosacea
Rosacea, diffused redness or chronic redness can be an annoying skin condition, whilst it is a medical condition that may not disappear completely. The symptoms can be reduced using IPL treatment. Clinically studies have confirmed that between 1-4 treatments using IPL are usually needed to get a good result. These treatments are timed about one month apart and can be done in conjunction with a good skincare routine.

How does the treatment work?
The applicator is placed on the skin and short, safe bursts of intense pulsed light are directed into the skin.
Can it treat all skin types?
Skin rejuvenation treatments are most efficient on clients with lighter skin types 1-4. It is important that the skin is not sun tanned or has fake tan on the skin. Before treatment can commence, a patch test is carried out. This is done 48 hours beforehand to check the skin is suitable without any reaction.
How long does the treatment take?
A full face skin rejuvenation takes 30 minutes and face and neck 40 minutes. You should see an improvement after the first treatment but it can take up to 3 treatments to achieve the full desired result.
Does the treatment hurt?
No, it is practically pain-free, only a slight flick may be felt followed by a gentle warmth.

Vascular Lesions
Vascular lesions are the result of numerous or large vessels that form directly underneath the skin. These lesions occur in many sizes, and shapes and can be found all over the body. They occur in a variety of forms including:
- Port wine stains
- Broken capillaries / Telangiectasis / Spider veins
- Cherry angiomas
- Poikilderma of Civatte (sun ageing ) – discolouration of the skin to a reddish-brown colour, it is common to have small broken vessels/capillaries and thinning of the skin. It normally occurs on your cheeks, neck and chest.
These can be easily and effectively treated with Nd Yag Laser and IPL depending on the area, size and condition. The light is used to absorb the haemoglobin in the blood. The light is converted to heat, which destroys the protein in the wall of the vessel. The vessel then starts to disappear into the blood and is flushed out of the body by the lymphatic system. A single treatment typically lasts 15-20 minutes. The number of treatments depends on the area and number of vessels to be treated. It can take 1-3 treatments. There are good results seen after just 1 treatment.
