Supporting Breast Cancer as an approved iS Clinical Cancer Care Clinic
October is breast cancer awareness month, also known as ‘pink October’ due to people wearing ‘pink’ / pink ribbons to help raise awareness. This time is dedicated to helping save lives by ensuring people know about the importance of early detection.
Did you know?
Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in the UK. In fact, research shows that 1 in 7 women will be diagnosed at some point in their life. However, around 23% of cases can be prevented. There are many factors that are known to contribute to the development of breast cancer, such as age, genetics, and lifestyle. Some common causes include oral contraceptives (1% of cases), perimenopause (2% of cases), choosing not to breastfeed (8% of cases), prolonged weight gain or obesity (8% of cases), and drinking alcohol (8% of cases). Breast cancer can also affect men, although it’s much less common, with around 400 cases reported each year, compared to over 50,000 cases in women.
Why is early detection important?
Breast cancer develops when a small amount of breast cells begin to grow in an abnormal way. These cells will grow and divide at a faster rate than the other cells, and a small lump or mass will form. Self-examination and regular screening (especially if you’re over 50) can help to find breast cancer when it’s in its early stages. This can dramatically increase your chance of survival as you’ll have more treatment options available to you.
RR Skin, Body & Clinic is an approved iS Clinical Cancer Care Clinic
When undergoing treatment for breast cancer can be traumatic for the body, depending on the treatment you require. Side effects are to be expected, changing the way your body looks and feels. For instance: your immune system may become weak, you may lose your hair, energy levels can become low, you may experience sickness and/or nausea, your skin can become more sensitive to the sun (burning easily) and you may develop sensitive skin that is dry and itchy.
As a skin clinic, we are dedicated to improving the look and feel of the skin. For those whose skin is affected by treatment for breast cancer, we have a range of
treatments and skincare to help maintain its quality and condition, even at this difficult time. This can help you to feel a little better about yourself, as well as more comfortable, so why not treat yourself to a little luxury and pampering?
Here we are delighted to offer the widely approved and recognised iS Clinical’s Harmony Facial – a facial dedicated to the delicate, sensitive skin experienced when undergoing cancer treatment. This is a clinically proven restorative facial that works to rebalance, rehydrate and calm the skin through the application of bio-nutrients, antioxidants, and hydrators. iS Clinical Cancer Care Programme
The Harmony Facial is supported through the amazing work of iS Clinical’s Cancer Care Wellness Collection, which provides effective and safe skincare solutions tailored to the unique needs of individuals facing the challenges of invasive treatment. iS Clinical has undergone a rigorous process to develop its range of specialised products, including:
- Research and Collaboration – working with oncologists, dermatologists, and other medical professionals with expertise in cancer care to provide critical insights into the unique skincare needs and challenges faced by cancer patients.
- Formulation Expertise – conducting extensive research on carefully selected ingredients known for their soothing, hydrating, and non-irritating properties.
- Clinical Testing – ensuring their safety and efficacy. This testing would have involved trials on actual cancer patients to evaluate the products' performance and tolerability.
- Dermatologist Approval – formulations will have been reviewed and approved by dermatologists, particularly those specialising in oncology or sensitive skin
conditions. This step ensures that the products meet the highest standards of safety and effectiveness. - Regulatory Compliance – ensuring that their cancer care products meet all relevant regulatory and quality standards, including compliance with any specific regulations.
- Patient Feedback – providing valuable input that helps in fine-tuning formulations and understanding the real-world impact of the products on 39 individuals for skin health and comfort.
- Educational Resources – helping to guide cancer patients and healthcare providers on the proper use of their cancer care products. This could include information on how to incorporate the products into a skincare routine, potential benefits, and any precautions to be aware of.
- Collaboration with Healthcare Facilities – partnering with hospitals, cancer treatment centres, and healthcare professionals makes their cancer care range readily available to patients undergoing treatment.
Our sister online shop (myskinshop.co.uk) has a skincare kit by iS Clinical available to purchase which is designed for use at home to target inflammation, redness, and dryness. The kit includes a cream cleanser, a poly vitamin serum, a hydra-cool serum, and extra protective SPF.
